How about a Staycation?

As Summer approaches I thought I’d share something that may interest you, a Staycation! A staycation is much like a vacation only instead of going abroad you stay at home and explore your own beautiful country. And lets face it, Northern Ireland has some amazing spots to check out – we weren’t listed as Lonely Planet’s Number 1 place to visit for nothing…

Some of my favourite home destinations that I’ve visited reside along the Antrim Coast; the village of Cushendall , the beauty of Glenarif Forrest Park and the charm of  Carnlough all draw me in but most recently I headed to County Fermanagh to take in the Beauty of Lusty Beg Island.

Surrounded by Lough Erne this island offers everything you want from a staycation; tasty food, spa treatments, excursions and Irish Charm. A place for a short romantic break, the perfect spot to celebrate an anniversary or a magical destination for a family holiday – Lusty Beg Island and it’s 7.5 acres has it all!

The island offers the chance to stay in a variety of accommodation, traditional hotel, a chalet, a town house or even a log cabin awaits you and each offers a different perspective! When we stayed it was in one of their luxury log cabins; equipped with its own balcony overlooking the woodland, this form of accommodation just fits with the surroundings. We spent the day walking along the lough perimeter, we enjoyed a lunch in the Captains room and enjoyed a quick dip in the pool and relaxed in the outdoor hot tub at the Island Spa. We returned to our Log Cabin to enjoy a few glasses of Red and later we dined at the Island’s restaurant, good hearty food with a view over looking the water.

Why consider a Staycation? I ask you to think of the movie Home Alone, the manic rush to get ready to board a plane, to headcount, to carry luggage, and more luggage and then go through the joy of what is, airport security, waiting times and check ins – a staycation lets you escape without the hassle – just set off and enjoy the beauty of NI while leaving all the stress behind.

Lusty Beg is definitely a place to unwind, my favourite part of the stay was just chillin’ with Lily by the Outdoor Hot Tub in the Japanese Garden, a wee bit of serenity after a quick dip in the pool, this was shortly before we headed for dinner and our night ended with a bottle of red, some chocolates and as always…some gentle nursery rhymes to help ease Lily off to sleep!

The perfect way to escape without actually escaping, staycations have been perfect for us, a new baby, cost effective, stress free and brilliant fun, if you decide on one this summer then Lusty Beg should be considered, an island of beauty awaits you.
